Three Medals Fall on Final Day of SEC Indoor Championships
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – After three days of competition and four medals, the Kentucky Wildcats concluded their run at the SEC Indoor Championships today in College Station, Texas.
Headlined by Kate Powers’ gold medal in the women’s weight throw final yesterday, the Wildcats finished 11th overall on the women’s side among the 16 SEC participating programs, accumulating 36 total points across the three-day meet. On the men’s side, Kentucky placed 12th, led by Carli Makarawu taking home silver today in the 200m final, just two days removed from breaking his own UK all-time record with his 20.20 finish in the prelims.
Junior Luke Brown and senior Payton Phillips also medaled today in their respective events, with Brown posting his personal best mark in the triple jump, breaking his own UK all-time record. Phillips took home bronze in the women’s pole vault finals by posting her personal best mark, moving her from third to second on the program’s all-time list.
To close out the SEC Championships, the 4x400m relay teams each clocked in with season-best times, including the women’s team recording the fifth-fastest in Kentucky’s program history, as well as the sixth-fastest time in the NCAA this season.
Following the conference portion of the postseason slate, the Wildcats will have a week off before heading to Virginia Beach, Va. for the NCAA Indoor Championships on Mar. 14-15.
