ATHENS, Ga. – The Kentucky Swimming and Diving team completed competition on day two with highlights coming from 3-meter finalist Sam Duncan, a NCAA B-standard time from the men’s 800 free relay, and a new personal best for the women’s 800 free relay. The Wildcat women end the day in 8th place with 115 points and the men in 9th with 102.
Starting the day off strong on boards, fifth-year Duncan qualified for the 3-meter final with a preliminary score of 351.35. Sophomore Gavin Hang and freshman Landon Isler picked up some SEC Championship experience of their own, finishing prelims at 32nd and 35th. In the final round, Duncan finished in 8th place, scoring 321.15 and adding the Kentucky men’s team on the board for the first time this week with 22 points.
Moving on to the first swimming event of the week Torie Buerger, Bridget Engel, Lydia Hanlon, and McCall Freiburger competed in the women’s 200 medley relay finishing 11th in 1:38.16. The men’s team of Devin Naoroz, Adomas Gatulis, Logan Ingerick, and Drew Johnson finished in 10th with a time of 1:25.38.
In the 800 free relay, the men’s team got 7th, achieving a NCAA B-standard time of 6:17.34. Max Berg, Carson Hick, Ryan Merani, and Justin Peresse get credit for the NCAA time, their first of the season as a relay. The women’s 800 relay had success of their own ending in 9th and marking a personal best with a time of 7:06.85 by Grace Frericks, Hayden Penny, Maddy Hartley, and Lauren West.
Day three of the championship starts with swimming prelims at 9:30 a.m. ET, followed by women’s 3-meter prelims at noon, with B-Finals directly after. The women’s 3-meter final will start at 5:30 p.m. ET along with the 200 free relay, 500 free, 200 IM, and wrapping up with the 50 free.
