MANHATTAN, Ks. – The University of Kentucky Women’s Tennis Team secured a decisive victory against Kansas State, sweeping the match 4-0 with an impressive performance in doubles and singles competition.
In doubles action, Kentucky earned two victories. Fifth-year Lizzy Stevens and senior Ellie Eades dominated with a 6-2 win over K-State’s Veronika Kulhava and Maria Santos. The No. 3 doubles match also saw Kentucky’s freshman Asuncion Jadue and sophomore Julia Zhu overpower K-State’s Sana Garakani and Tereza Polakova, finishing with a 6-3 scoreline. However, the No. 2 doubles match was closely contested, with K-State’s Maralgoo Chogsomjav and Charlotte Keitel edging out junior Zoe Hammond and freshman Tess Bucher from Kentucky, winning 6-4.
In singles play, Kentucky continued their strong performance, securing victories in all completed matches. At No. 1 singles, Hammond rallied after dropping the second set, ultimately defeating K-State’s Keitel 7-5, 3-6, 6-1. Stevens, playing in the two spot, cruised past Chogsomjav in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. No. 54 Zhu followed suit on court three, defeating K-State’s Maria Santos 6-4, 6-3.
Coming off of a loss on Friday, Kentucky’s dominant performance led to a convincing win, with the Wildcats securing a clinch before the remaining matches could be completed. The Wildcats now move to 6-2 on the season as they head into a break before conference play. The next match will be at home versus the Tennessee Volunteers on Feb. 22 at 1 p.m.
