Wildcats Win Three, Set Seven Personal Records at Fairgrounds Invite

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – In their penultimate meet prior to the SEC Indoor Championships on Feb. 27, the Kentucky track and field team secured three wins across 13 competitions, as well as seven personal records at the Fairgrounds Invitational in Indianapolis, Ind.

UK kicked off the event with four Wildcats qualifying for the women’s 60m hurdles final event, including Alexis Glasco, Kori Martin, Camden Bentley and Maya Anderson finishing as the top four runners. Glasco would later claim the top spot on the leaderboard in the 60m hurdles final with an 8.28 time, along with Martin, Bentley and Anderson finishing inside the top six. In the Wildcats’ second and third wins of the day, A’Laji Bradley and Cha’lei Johnson topped the leaderboard in the women’s 400m and 800m finals, with Bradley finishing in a personal best time of 56.38.

In the women’s 600m final, freshman Jayla Atkinson and senior Phoebe McCowan each set personal records with times of 1:34.38 and 1:36.63, respectively. In the women’s 3000m final, Elly Heine and Brooke Berger set a new career-best time by finishing third and 14th with times of 10:05.39 and 10:37.05.

On the men’s side, the Wildcats added two more personal bests to their results, including Max Liao in the 800m and Alex Alston in the 3000m, with Alston finishing fourth and clearing his previous record by a tenth of a second.

Next up for the Wildcats will be a pair of meets next weekend, featuring the Tiger Paw Invitational in Clemson, S.C. and the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston, Mass. on Feb. 14-15.
