Kentucky in Fourth, Two Wildcats in 11th at the Paradise Invitational
BOCA RATON, Fla. – Two Wildcats are tied for 11th place through 36 holes at the Paradise Invitational, while the University of Kentucky women’s golf team sits in fourth place after turning in a 5-under (571) at Osprey Point-Raven & Falcon in Boca Raton, Florida.
Kentucky played 36 holes Monday, going 3-under through the first 18 and 2-under through the second 18. Sitting in fourth place ahead of the final round, the team is just one stroke behind Mercer in third place.
No. 44 Oklahoma leads the field at 22-under, which was initially 13-deep but became 15-deep with the additions of Brigham University and Mercer. No. 21 Oklahoma State is in second place at 20-under, while Mercer sits in third place at 6-under.
The Wildcats will play their final round on Tuesday, with an 8 a.m. ET shotgun start.
Kentucky was led by sophomore Cathryn Brown and freshman Karlie Campbell on Monday, who both turned in impressive scorecards of 141 (-3) through 36 holes.
Brown went 1-under in the first round, which included an eagle on the par-5 No. 1, before going 2-under in the second round. In the second round, she earned a bogey on her second hole, then finished out her day with 13 pars and a trio of birdies. Her 2-under in the second round marked her best score this season.
Campbell flooded her scorecard with birdies Monday, combining for seven through 36 holes. She produced a career-best 69 (-3) through the first round before following up with a 72 (E) in the second round.
Brooke Oberparleiter was a steady hand for the Wildcats, going even-par through the first 18 and even-par through the second 18. It marked the first time she has recorded back-to-back, even-or-better rounds since her career debut in Fall 2023. Like Campbell, she collected seven birdies on the golf course today, boasting an even-par 144 for 21st place.
Freshman Anastasia Hekkonen and senior Marta López Echevarría went just 3-over through 36 holes Monday, as the duo shared 49th place in the 78-person field. Hekkonen, just a freshman competing in her second lineup this season, actually led the team with eight birdies on the day. She logged a 73 (+1) in the first round, followed by a 74 (+2) in the second round. López Echevarría rallied a 75 (+3) in the first before recovering with a 72 (E) in the second.
