Big Blue Preview: No. 15/16 Kentucky Women’s Basketball Plays at Florida on Thursday
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 15/16 University of Kentucky women’s basketball program will play at Florida on Thursday, Jan. 9 at 5 p.m. ET in Exactech Arena at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center in Gainesville, Florida. The game will be televised on SEC Network, the team’s first SEC Network assignment of the season.

Darren Headrick will have the radio call for UK Sports Network, his eighth straight season as the voice of the Wildcats. His call will be carried on 630 AM WLAP (Lexington) and 790 AM WKRD (Louisville).

The Wildcats enter the game 13-1 overall, 2-0 in the league and 2-1 on the road. They’re coming off their second league win of the season and their second road win of the season after defeating RV/RV Vanderbilt, 96-78, in Memorial Gymnasium on Sunday. It marked the first time in program history that the program defeated its first two league opponents by 18-or-more points, while it also marked the first time in program history that it scored at least 91 points against its first two league opponents.
Georgia Amoore, who recorded her fifth and sixth straight games of 20+ points in her first pair of SEC games, picked up four honors after the triumph in Nashville. On Tuesday, she was named an Ann Meyers Drysdale National Player of the Week, SEC Player of the Week and was listed to the John R. Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 Watch List. On Wednesday, she also picked up NCAA March Madness Starting Lineup of the Week.
Through 14 games in 2024-25, UK is averaging 80.6 points per game, 42.0 rebounds per game, 20.1 assists per game, which ranks sixth in the nation, and 7.7 blocks per game, which ranks first in the nation. UK is also is hitting 9.1 3-pointers per game, which ranks 20th in the nation, while its hitting 16.5 3-pointers through two league games.
In fact, Kentucky is the only team in NCAA Division I with three players that have made at least 35 3-pointers each. Amoore has 37, while Dazia Lawrence and Amelia Hassett both have 35 apiece.
All five starters are averaging double-digit scoring on the season, with Amoore leading the pack at 17.9. Three of the five starters – Clara Strack, Amelia Hassett, Teonni Key – also are averaging more than 9.0 rebounds per game. In fact, their the only trio in the nation and just the fifth trio in NCAA DI history to average more than 9.0 rebounds at the same time.
The is the 65th all-time meeting between Kentucky and Florida. Kentucky leads the all-time meetings with Florida, 37-27, in a series that began in 1978. Kentucky also leads the all-time meetings with Florida in Gainesville, 13-12.
The Wildcats own a three-game winning streak over the Gators. The Cats also have a two-game winning streak over the Gators in Gainesville. The Cats haven’t lost to the Gators since falling, 77-52, on Jan. 20, 2022 in Lexington. The Cats haven’t lost to the Gators in Gainesville since falling, 70-62, Feb. 2, 2020.
