Logan Dorsey’s First Half Goal Not Enough for Wildcat Win

ORLANDO, Fla. – Kentucky men’s soccer (3-5-5, 2-2-2 Sun Belt) fell 2-1 to Central Florida (5-4-3, 3-3 Sun Belt) in a midweek matchup at the UCF Soccer Complex.

Senior Logan Dorsey was the lone goal scorer for the Wildcats notching his fifth successful shot of the season in the 34th minute. Fellow senior Martin Soereide passed the ball from out wide to the middle of the box connecting with Josh Gordon. The sophomore touched the ball to Dorsey who sent the ball into the net and past the Central Florida keeper. Kentucky neared the end of the first half with the 1-0 advantage.

However, the Cats did not keep hold of the lead for long as the Knights quickly found a score of their own to equalize the contest heading into the halftime period. As goalkeeper Casper Mols exited the box to make a save, the ball was sent to Drew Hansen who scored off a header. He was assisted by Mouhamed Pouye in the 39’.

Following the short period of rest, the two programs returned to the pitch looking for the victory. Less than 10 minutes into the second half of regulation, Central Florida found its game-winning opportunity in the 54th minute. Hansen recorded a brace off his right foot sending the ball past Mols and into the bottom right of the net. He was assisted by Anderson Rosa.

Kentucky and Central Florida hold an all-time series record of 6-5-2 (UK) with the first matchup taking place in 1995. UCF recorded the first win against UK since 2009.

The Cats will return to The Bell Soccer Complex on Sunday to host Coastal Carolina for a 7 p.m. matchup. Later in the week, UK will close the 2024 homestand against Marshall for Senior Night.
