Kentucky Women’s Golf Concludes Mason Rudolph Under Par, Cathryn Brown Cards a 66

FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Cathryn Brown, a sophomore from Eddyville, Kentucky, built momentum all week at the Mason Rudolph Championship, which culminated in her career-low, 6-under-par 66 in the final round Sunday. Her scorecard tied for the fourth-best, 18-hole output in program history.

Brown put her best on display this weekend, combining for a career-best, 8-under-par 208. She did that for an 11th place finish in one of the strongest fields she will face all season. Her 13 birdies through 54 holes were the sixth most in the elite field.

In the final round, her scorecard was nearly clean as a whistle, stringing together seven birdies and just one bogey on the par-4 No. 1, a hole she parred throughout the weekend.

Brown’s performance helped the team go 4-under in the final round and submit a 2-under-par 862 at the Mason Rudolph Championship, its lowest tournament total at the event since 2021. Both the 4-under today and the 2-under for the weekend are season bests for the Wildcats, who have played in two tournaments and six rounds so far in 2024-25.

The Wildcats finished in 12th place in a field that includes seven teams ranked in the Women’s Golf Coaches Association Top 25.

Brooke Oberparleiter finished next in the lineup, up a spot from the second round, turning in a 2-over-par 218 for T42. In the final round, the sophomore paired four bogeys with three birdies to go just 1-over Sunday.

C.A. Carter, a freshman from Lexington, Kentucky, had a stellar first two rounds, recording a 71 and 72, respectively. She gained some strokes late in the final round after three straight bogeys to conclude the day, forcing a 4-over-par 76. Despite the tough stretch toward the end, the rookie still finished just 3-over-par 219 altogether for third in the lineup and tied for 49th place overall in just the second tournament of her college career.

Two more freshmen put together solid scores Sunday, including Elin Pudas Remler and Raleygh Simpson.

Pudas Remler got within a stroke of even par in the final round, assembling a 1-over Sunday on a scorecard that featured birdies on hole Nos. 14, 16 and 4. She had a tough go with a double on her second hole of the day, the par-4 No. 11, that she had parred the first two days. Despite that, Pudas Remler arranged a 5-over-par 221 tournament total for a share of 59th place.

Raleygh Simpson earned her season best on an even-par 72 on Sunday. She claimed a week-best four birdies throughout the round, including three on her first nine. The rookie concluded the event 7-over-par 223 for T68.

Finishing in first place at the Mason Rudolph Championship was No. 4 Texas on a 31-under, while No. 4 South Carolina (-25) and Northwestern (-24) took second and third place, respectively.

(Texas and South Carolina are tied in the latest rankings).

The Wildcats will take less than two weeks off before their return to another familiar tournament at the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational at Finley Golf Club in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, from Oct. 11-13.
