Jack Loutit to Represent New Zealand in Davis Cup

PALMERSTON NORTH, New Zealand – Sophomore Jack Loutit will represent his home country of New Zealand at the Davis Cup for the first time this weekend, as the Kiwi squad take on Luxembourg in a World Group II tie from September 14-15 in Palmerston North, New Zealand.

The tie will be played in a best-of-five matches format, with four singles rubbers and one doubles rubber to take place over the two days of competition. The winning country must claim at least three of the rubbers and will advance to the World Group I Playoffs in February of 2025.

Loutit, a native of Auckland, New Zealand, will return to his home country after a successful freshman campaign with the Wildcats. An All-SEC Freshman Team member, Loutit featured primarily at No. 5 singles and racked up a 27-9 singles record in his first season of collegiate tennis. The Kiwi provided the clinching point in Kentucky’s SEC regular season championship-clinching win over Tennessee, as well as the Wildcats’ 4-3 win over Illinois in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament.

“Being at the University of Kentucky has definitely prepared me well for whatever is to come, especially with the Davis Cup,” Loutit said. “You really learn how to bond with your teammates, just learning that everything is about the team, and you’ve got to put the team first before yourself. I think that prepares me very well for Davis Cup, knowing what it’s like to be under a high-pressure, high-stress environment.”

Branded “The World Cup of Tennis”, the Davis Cup is the premier international team tournament in men’s tennis. With the ultimate goal of hoisting the trophy at the Davis Cup Finals, the largest, annual team competition in the sport features multiple rounds of promotion and relegation each year, fostering movement between the Finals group and five different World Groups.
