Senior J.P. Blevins was named to the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll, the lone Wildcat on the list of 21 released by Commissioner Roy Kramer earlier this week. Blevins, who will graduate in May with a degree in communications, became the first Wildcat since Travis Ford (1992-94) to earn the honor three times.

Prince Named All-American

The National Association of Basketball Coaches named Kentucky senior Tayshaun Prince a second-team All-American on Monday.

Prince, who leads the Wildcats in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots this season, earned All-American honors for the second consecutive year. As a junior, the 6-9 forward earned second-team honors by The Associated Press and the United States Basketball Writer’s Association and was one of 10 members named to the Wooden All-American team. This past fall, the AP, among other publications and Web sites, named him a Preseason All-American.

NABC first-team honors went to Jason Williams (Duke), Drew Gooden (Kansas), Mike Dunleavy (Duke), Juan Dixon (Maryland) and Steve Logan (Cincinnati).

Prince Picked 1st Team All-SEC, Hayes Makes All-Freshman Squad

For the second consecutive season, Kentucky forward Tayshaun Prince was named first-team All-Southeastern Conference, the league announced Monday. League coaches voted on the honor.

The 6-9 senior has led the Wildcats in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots this season, averaging 17.0 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game. The league’s Player of the Year in 2001, he was Kentucky’s only student-athlete among the three teams. Joining Prince on the first-team were Erwin Dudley, the league’s Player of the Year from Alabama, Udonis Haslem (Florida), Jarvis Hayes (Georgia) and Vincent Yarbrough (Tennessee).

Teammate Chuck Hayes, who earned a starting role the past four games, was named to the All-Freshman team. Hayes is averaging 5.7 points and 4.2 rebounds per game, but those numbers improve considerably in his starting assignments to 9.6 and 6.0, respectively.
