Men’s Soccer Faces First Season Loss to Wisconsin
LEXINGTON, Ky. – No. 16 Kentucky men’s soccer (1-1-1) fell 1-0 to No. 10 Wisconsin (5-0) in a Friday contest at The Bell Soccer Complex.
Despite a one-hour weather delay, the Wildcats stepped onto the pitch in front of 801 members of Big Blue Nation.
Throughout the first half of the match, both the Badgers and Wildcats made attempts to get an early goal. However, neither team found success which resulted in a 0-0 tie leading into the halftime period.
The match remained scoreless for 79 minutes of play before Wisconsin put the lone point on the board to take the advantage over Kentucky. The goal was scored unassisted by Noah Glorioso, a graduate student from Naperville, Ill. Prior to the score, the Badgers were able to get another successful ball into the net. However, after video review, the call was confirmed as offside not counting the goal.
As time expired, the score remained 1-0 pushing the all-time series record to 2-0 UW following a 1-0 win over the Cats last season in the first meeting of the two programs in Madison, Wis.
“We had plenty of opportunities,” Cedergren stated. “We had several opportunities in the first half. Second half, we didn’t make a very smart decision on the ball. I’m excited to get going with my guys again and prepare for Louisville on Monday.”
The Wildcats will be back at The Bell on Monday to face in-state rival No. 15 Louisville at 7:30 p.m. EST. Fans are encouraged to wear blue and Pack The Bell.
