Janet Brock Named Head Coach of UK Dance Team
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Janet Brock, who has served as the assistant coach of the University of Kentucky Dance Team for the past four years, has been hired to be the head coach of the UK Dance Team, it was announced on Tuesday.
“It is exciting to name Janet Brock as head coach of our dance team,” said Mitch Barnhart, UK Director of Athletics. “Janet’s skills as a coach, her love and knowledge of the University, along with her understanding of the strong team culture she helped Dawn (retiring coach Dawn Walters) build, make her a great fit. We look forward to seeing the program continue to grow under her direction.”
Brock served as an assistant coach under Walters beginning in 2020, leading the UKDT to multiple top-five finishes in the Universal Dance Association national competition.
“I am honored to be the head coach of the UK Dance Team,” Brock said. “I have a love and a passion for this University, the dance team and the Commonwealth of Kentucky. I am thankful to the administration for giving me this wonderful opportunity.”
Brock, a native of Corbin, Kentucky, arrived at UK after 15 years as the dance team coach at Tates Creek High School in Lexington. During her college career, Brock was a four-year member of the UK Wildcat Danzers, where she was coached by Walters from 2000-04. Brock earned her Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in history, from UK in 2004. She also earned a Master of Arts in Secondary Education Social Studies from Georgetown College in 2006.
Brock has extensive experience in choreography, having worked with several teams across the state of Kentucky.
Her hiring is contingent on the satisfaction of the University’s pre-employment screenings and other due diligence.
