Keaton Daniel Secures Pole Vault Victory at Tom Jones Memorial Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Senior Keaton Daniel continued his winning ways today at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational earning his first back-to-back event victories of the outdoor season. Daniel secured his first outdoor event victory just two weeks ago at the Battle on the Bayou hosted by LSU.

The man who continues to receive votes on The Bowerman watchlist impressed again today clearing a season-best 18’7.25”/5.67 meters on his second attempt to secure the win for the second meet in a row. Sophomore Brayden Jackson also earned an impressive tie for fourth in his section of the pole vault competition clearing 16’4”/4.98 meters to cap off a good day for the men’s pole vault squad.

In other notables today, graduate student Kennedy Lightner earned a fifth-place finish in the 200-meter invite crossing the line in a season-best 20.30 (+1.8) while freshman Shavique Bascus moved up the record book running a personal best and ninth-fastest time in school history at 20.62 (+1.8).

Meanwhile, senior Dennis Ohene-Adu earned a sixth-place finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 186’4”/56.81 meters.

In summary, UKTF earned one event win on the day with six finishes in the top 10 while four personal bests were set. The Wildcats will conclude the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational tomorrow starting at 9 a.m. ET.

MEN – Graduate student Kennedy Lightner finished fifth with a season-best time of 20.30 (+1.8) while freshman Shavique Bascus moved to ninth on the UK all-time performers list after setting a personal best time of 20.62 (+1.8).

WOMEN – Both junior Phoebe McCowan (4:21.20) and sophomore Ally Kruger (4:21.70) set new personal bests.

POLE VAULT

MEN – Senior Keaton Daniel won the invite portion of the competition clearing 18’7.25”/5.67 meters for his first back-to-back event wins of the outdoor season. Sophomore Brayden Jackson tied for fourth in the other men’s pole vault competition vaulting at 16’4”/4.98 meters to earn his second finish in the top five this outdoor season.

HAMMER THROW

WOMEN – Freshman Shelby Wingler set a new personal best with a mark of 159’10”/48.72 meters.

MEN – Seniors Dennis Ohene-Adu and DaRoyce Flemons took a respective sixth and 10th place finish as Ohene-Adu threw a mark of 186’4”/56.81 meters while Flemons threw a mark of 179’7”/54.75 meters. It marks the best finish for both student-athletes in the event so far this outdoor season.

SHOT PUT

MEN – Senior Dennis Ohene-Adu placed eighth with a throw of 61’8.50”/18.81 meters.
