Kentucky senior guard Gerald Fitch was named Southeastern Conference Player of the Week by the league office. Fitch totaled 25 points in UK?s 79-74 win over Michigan State Saturday in front of a world-record basketball crowd of 78,129.

Fitch also became the 50th member of UK?s 1,000-point club against the Spartans after going 7-of-11 from the field while connecting on 4-of-6 three-pointers. He scored the final three points of the game from the charity stripe as well.

The Macon, Ga., native ranks fifth in the SEC in scoring (20.4 ppg) and is tied with Bob Burrow for 46th on UK?s all-time scoring list with 1,023 points. This is Fitch?s second SEC Player of the Week honor. He was the last Wildcat honored by the SEC on Dec. 9, 2002. It?s the 20th time a UK player has earned POW honors since the 1994-95 season.

UK is 5-0 to start the season and next travels to Indianapolis? RCA Dome, Saturday, Dec. 20 to face Indiana in the annual rivalry game.
