Kentucky Gymnastics Slotted No. 9 in WCGA Preseason Rankings
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky gymnastics has been voted No. 9 in the Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) Preseason Rankings, the association announced Friday afternoon.
The Wildcats enter the 2024 meet slate after the most accomplished season in program history in 2023. With only the second ever team appearance at the national championships, the Cats ended the season with their highest ranking of No. 6.
Kentucky did not leave many records unbroken as Team 49 saw its first undefeated homestand since 1984, the first since Tim Garrison became the head of the program in 2011. UK set its highest overall meet score against Alabama which was later topped against Arkansas with a 197.875. The Cats also set a new overall road meet score at Illinois with a 197.800 which secured a spot in the evening session at the Southeastern Conference Championships for the first time since 2019. The Wildcats were one of three NCAA DI gymnastics programs to end the year scoring 49.000+ in every meet which resulted in zero falls counted.
Garrison enters his 13th season at the helm of the program which is celebrating its 50th season as a varsity sport at the University of Kentucky.
UK will begin the 2024 season on the road in Las Vegas, Nev. at the Super 16 followed by away meets at No. 17 Auburn and No. 3 LSU. The Wildcats will return home to Rupp Arena at Central Bank Center on Jan. 26 to host Georgia for Excite Night. For the full season schedule, click here.
