After a rare three-day break for the Christmas holiday, the Wildcats returned to practice Monday in preparation for Wednesday night?s game with the Campbell Fighting Camels. It?s the first meeting between UK and Campbell, who became a Division I school during the 1977-78 season.
The Wildcats have won their last four games by an average of 23.3 ppg, including a 45-point win over William & Mary last Wednesday. Chuck Hayes led the way with a game-high 18 points on 8-of-10 shooting in just 21 minutes. Kelenna Azubuike added 17 points, seven rebounds and five steals in the win.
The game with Campbell is UK?s final contest of the 2004 calender year. So far this year, UK owns a 27-5 record.
The Cats enjoy another week-long break between games before opening Southeastern Conference play against South Carolina Jan. 5.
Scouting the Camels
Campbell has struggled to a 2-6 record so far this season with victories over William & Mary and North Carolina A&T. The Fighting Camels have lost three in a row, including a 90-49 defeat at Tennessee on Dec. 23.
Maurice Latham leads the team in scoring with 10.4 ppg and is second on the team in rebounding with 5.9 rpg. Anthony Atkinson adds 10.3 ppg, while Comerlee Poole leads the team on the glass, adding 7.9 rpg.
Former Auburn assistant Robbie Laing is in his second season as head coach at Campbell. His team went 3-24 last season as the youngest team in the Atlantic Sun Conference.
