Men’s Soccer Begins 2023 Campaign at Home Thursday
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The No. 3 preseason-ranked Kentucky men’s soccer team will kick off Thursday at 7:30 p.m. EST at the Wendell & Vickie Bell Soccer Complex to begin the 2023 season against Florida Gulf Coast University.
Coming off its most successful season to date in 2022, the Cats look to build on that success in the upcoming season. The 2023 squad takes the pitch with 11 returners and 14 newcomers.
Already getting attention in preseason awards, the Wildcats were slotted No. 3 in the preseason coaches’ poll and No. 1 in the Sun Belt Conference. Sophomore goalkeeper Casper Mols was voted Sun Belt Preseason Defensive Player of the Year while junior Casper Grening was selected as Sun Belt Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. Four Cats were selected for the preseason all-conference team while both Mols and graduate transfer Finn Ballard McBride were announced as players to watch by United Soccer Coaches.
Thursday will be the first time Kentucky and FGCU have faced off on the pitch. The theme for the night is Game Night as fans can enjoy free season schedule t-shirts, inflatables, cornhole and more!
