Three Wildcats Named to NABC Honors Court
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Three Kentucky men’s basketball players were tabbed to the National Association of Basketball Coaches’ Honors Court for the 2022-23 season as announced by the organization on Thursday. Brennan Canada, CJ Fredrick and Oscar Tshiebwe were UK’s recipients.
Players must be a junior, senior or graduate student in academic standing and finished the 2022-23 season with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 or higher.
The NABC’s academic awards include honorees from all levels of college basketball and more than 1,800 players earned spots on the NABC Honors Court.
Each of UK’s three recipients were also honored by the Southeastern Conference this season. Canada, Fredrick and Tshiebwe were all tabbed to the SEC’s Winter Academic Honor Roll.
Canada is a four-time honoree on the SEC Academic Honor Roll and is a 2022 graduate of Kentucky with a communication degree. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in sport leadership. The Mount Sterling, Kentucky, native was also inducted into the Frank G. Ham Society of Character, the highest honor bestowed on UK student-athletes, in the spring of 2022. He has appeared in 20 games throughout his career after enjoying a standout high school career at George Rogers Clark. It is the second-consecutive season Canada has been recognized by the NABC.
Fredrick graduated with a degree in community and leadership development in May. He played in 27 games for the Wildcats last season and started in 15 games. He averaged 6.1 points and 1.5 assists per game, while connecting on 34 3-pointers on the year. This marks the second honor of Fredrick’s career.
Tshiebwe was a two-time All-American for the Wildcats before signing a two-way contract with the Indiana Pacers. He became the first member of his family to earn a college degree when he earned his diploma in communication in May at Kentucky. Tshiebwe concluded his career at UK averaging 16.9 points and 14.4 rebounds per game over 66 games played. He ranks sixth all-time in Kentucky history with 952 career rebounds and 48th with 1,117 career points.
