Garrison, Wiest and McAtee Earn WCGA Regional Awards
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Three members of the Kentucky gymnastics staff have been awarded Central Region yearly honors, the Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) announced on Monday.
Assistant coaches Rachel Garrison and Chad Wiest have been voted Central Region Assistant Coaches of the Year, and Heather McAtee has been awarded Central Region Administrator of the Year for the second consecutive year.
Rachel Garrison
Garrison, associate head coach for the Wildcats, is in her 12th year with Kentucky gymnastics and fourth year in her current role. She has assisted in coaching the Cats to over 100 victories, two NCAA National Championship and six regional finals appearances, as well as 12 NCAA regional berths. Garrison has split her role between recruiting and coaching the balance beam while at Kentucky. She was honored as regional assistant coach of the year in 2018.
Chad Wiest
Wiest, assistant coach for UK, is in his second season with the Cats. He holds a vital role in recruiting for the program while specializing in coaching vault and the floor exercise. Prior to Kentucky, Wiest spent five years at the University of Washington where he co-produced three NCAA All-Americans, seven WCGA Regular Season All-Americans and 17 All-Pac-12 honors in Seattle.
Heather McAtee
Kentucky gymnastics administrator Heather McAtee was honored for the second consecutive year as regional administrator of the year. Serving as gymnastics liaison since the 2007-08 season, the assistant athletic director for academics and eligibility has provided budgetary assistance for the program, staffing, overseeing meet operations, working with the Southeastern Conference and other administrative duties with the team.
