Lexington, Ky. – Junior Jodie Meeks was named the SEC Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday.
The 6-4 Norcross, Ga., native scored 46 points in leading the Wildcats to a 93-69 win over Appalachian State on Dec. 20. His 46 points were the second most in the nation this year and the most by an SEC player since Shaquille O’Neal had 53 against Arkansas in 1990.
It was the most points by a UK player since Dan Issel notched 47 at Alabama in 1970. Meeks was 14-of-21 from the field and 9-of-10 from the free throw line. He made nine of his 14 three-point attempts to tie a school record for three-pointers made.
The award was his of the season and third for the Wildcats. It was Meeks’ fifth career weekly honor for the SEC. He was named the league’s freshman of the week three times in his rookie season in 2006-07.
