The first meet of the season will be a dual close to home between the Wildcats and the Colonels in Richmond.
A month later, UKXC will compete in the Bluegrass again, making their return to the Greater Louisville Classic after a year off from the meet in 2021.
The Wildcats will travel to Oklahoma State for the competitive Cowboy Jamboree at the end of September, getting a chance to preview the same course that the NCAA’s best will run at for the 2022 NCAA Championships.
The 2022 Southeastern Conference Championship meet will take place at Ole Miss in Oxford, Mississippi. In 2021, the Kentucky women finished fourth with a historic 93 points at the same meet in Colombia, Missouri while the men finished sixth. The Wildcats’ best individual finish at 2021 SECs was Tori Herman in fifth place, earning first-team all-SEC honors. The point total of 93 for the women was the highest for the Cats since 2013.
NCAA Southeast Regionals will return to E.P. Tom Sawyer Park for the second year in a row with Kentucky having been the host school in 2021 and finishing third as a team. The top two teams in each NCAA regional will receive an automatic bid to NCAA Championships.
In 2021, Tori Herman and Perri Bockrath, both of whom are returning this season, ran at NCAA Championships in Tallahassee, Florida, with Herman earning All-America honors with her 17th place finish. The Wildcats narrowly missed out on bringing a full team of five runners on the women’s side despite being ranked 29th in the final USTFCCCA women’s cross country poll of the season. The top 30 teams per gender earn a bid to compete at NCAAs with five runners on each team, followed by select individuals based off their place finishes at their respective NCAA Regional meet.
The Wildcats return 12 runners on the men’s side, including fifth year Dylan Allen and junior Ethan Kern, with four freshman additions while the women’s team returns 13 and adds four newcomers, three freshmen and one All-American transfer.
