Martens' Late RBI Double, Humes’ Relief Gives UK Sunday Win

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Alex Martens hit an RBI double to deep left field to score the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning to lift the No. 19 Kentucky Wildcats to a 3-2 win over the No. 9 Texas A&M Aggies on Sunday afternoon in the final game at the Aggie Softball Complex in College Station.
 
Autumn Humes threw five complete shutout innings of shutout softball in relief of Grace Baalman in the win, as she picked up her eighth win of the season in the circle. Humes allowed no runs on five hits, struck out two and did not walk a batter in the game.
 
Freshman Mallory Peyton hit her fifth homer of the season to tie the game in the top of the fifth inning to tie the game at 2-2 before the Wildcats took the lead for good in the top of the sixth.
 
With Sunday’s win, Kentucky picks up its third top-10 win of the season, and first top-10 road win of the season. The Wildcats improve to 26-13 overall on the season and have now clinched postseason eligibility with their 26th win of the season. UK is 4-10 in Southeastern Conference play. Texas A&M falls to 36-10 on the year and now sports a 9-6 league record.
 
UK returns to action on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. ET against the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. The game will be played in Bowling Green, Kentucky, which was the first stop for Rachel Lawson in her head coaching career.

Zero. Winning pitcher Autumn Humes issued no walks in the game as she threw five innings.

Freshman Mallory Peyton clubbed a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning to tie the game at 2-2, as UK came back from a deficit in the fifth inning for the first time all season.
 
Additionally, Autumn Humes got out of a bases-loaded no-out jam with a strikeout and a lineout double play back to the circle.

Alex Martens was the key player in the game for the Wildcats, clubbing the game-winning run to left field on an RBI double to win the game.
