No. 8 Kentucky Opens Four-Game Road Trip at Western Carolina

by UK Media Relations

LEXINGTON, Ky. With a critical homestand in the books after UK went 3-1 against No. 21 Louisville and South Carolina, the No. 8 Wildcats begin a four-game road trip at Western Carolina on Wednesday night in Cullowhee, N.C. From there they will make the short drive over to Athens for a weekend series against No. 18 Georgia.

UK coach Nick Mingione has a connection to Western Carolina, having spent the 2009 season there between his tenures as an assistant at Kentucky and Mississippi State. He’ll be returning to a place where he helped the Catamounts win 29 games, which will certainly bring back fond memories.

The Cats will arrive with one of the nation’s top offenses, ranking in the nation’s top 10 in slugging percentage (2nd), home runs (3rd), on-base percentage (3rd), batting average (4th), runs scored (5th), hits (8th) and doubles (10th). The Cats also rank 21st in bases on balls. They have scored double-digit runs 14 times in 32 games, including twice over the weekend against South Carolina.

First pitch is set for 5 p.m. ET at Hennon Stadium nestled in the western North Carolina hills. Darren Headrick will be on the radio call at 630 AM WLAP and the game will be streamed on ESPN3.
