Humes Solid in Relief as No. 2 Gators Take Series Opener

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 2 Florida Gators got a no-hitter from junior Kelly Barnhill, the fourth of the season for her, to beat the Kentucky Wildcats 6-0 on Friday night in the Southeastern Conference series opener for both teams.
 
UF got six runs on two hits in the first inning, and wouldn’t score again as the six-run first was enough to power the Gators to a 20-1 record on the season. Kentucky falls to 15-4.
 
Game two of the series will be on Saturday at 6 p.m. ET. The game will be shown live on the SEC Network, ESPN3 and the ESPN app with Melissa Lee (pxp) and Cheri Kempf (color) on the call from Gainesville.
 
Key Stat
Zero. Kentucky had no hits in the game for the first time this season.
 
Key Play
The key play for UK was Jenny Schaper’s walk to lead off the second inning, which broke up the Barnhill perfect game.
 
Key Player
Autumn Humes was the key player in the game for UK, as she went 4.2 innings, allowing just two unearned runs, two walks and striking out two more. Humes faced 20 batters in her SEC debut, and was sensational in relief.
 
Run Recap
Florida loaded the bases on three walks in the bottom of the first. A walk then forced in a run, and a UK error added in a pair of runs, as UF struck for a six spot in the bottom of the first. FINAL – #2 Florida 6, #23 Kentucky 0
