No. 6 Kentucky Travels to Queen City for Midweek Game

by UK Media Relations

LEXINGTON, Ky. Kentucky returns to action on Tuesday afternoon in the Queen City looking to get back on track after opening weekend of Southeastern Conference play in Arkansas. Still ranked in the top 10, the Wildcats seek to end a four-game losing streak as part of six consecutive games against top five opponents over the past two weeks.

The offense did enough against Arkansas to win, scoring 15 runs on 31 hits in the three-game series, but the Razorback offense was white-hot and enabled the Hogs to answer every rally the Cats generated. Junior C/1B Kole Cottam homered twice, junior   OF Tristan Pompey doubled twice and looked like himself after suffering an ankle sprain several weeks ago, and senior C/1B Troy Squires continued to hit in Fayetteville.

UK and Xavier met earlier this season in the Cats’ home opener on Feb. 20. The Musketeers scored a pair of runs in the first inning but the Cats rallied to tie it in the late innings. UK couldn’t push a run across with the bases loaded in the ninth and Xavier   ended up taking the game 3-2 in 10 innings.

First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at Hayden Field and the game can be heard on 98.5 FM Lexington with Darren Headrick on the call.
