Humes Strikes Out Nine, No. 2 Florida Sweeps Series

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Sophomore pitcher Autumn Humes recorded a career-high nine strikeouts on Sunday and pitched a complete game in her first-career Southeastern Conference start, but unfortunately the offense was unable to etch across any runs, as the No. 2 Florida Gators won 4-0 and claimed a sweep of the opening weekend of conference play.
 
The Wildcats now have dropped three game in a row for the first time all season, and sit at 15-6 overall on the season with an 0-3 conference record. The second-ranked Gators improve to 22-1 on the season and sit atop the league standings with a 3-0 record.
 
Kentucky will open up a five-game homestand on Tuesday afternoon at John Cropp Stadium against Northern Illinois. First pitch is at 3 p.m. ET live on the SEC Network+, ESPN3 and the ESPN app.
 
Key Stat
Four. After being no-hit for 14 consecutive innings by Kelly Barnhill, UK was able to record four hits, including a 3-for-3 day from lead-off hitter Katie Reed.

The key play in the game was a two-run home run from Amanda Lorenz in the bottom of the third inning.

Katie Reed was the key player, going 3-for-3 in the game with two bunt singles and a single up the middle.

The final run pushed across by the Gators was from Sophia Reynoso, who had a successful suicide squeeze play to score Haven Sampson from third. FINAL – #2 Florida 4, #23 Kentucky 0
