Austin Hussey Named SEC Player of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After playing a critical role in Kentucky’s win over No. 7 Illinois, Austin Hussey has been named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week by the league office.
 
The recognition marks Hussey’s first career SEC honor.
 
UK was down 3-1 to the Fighting Illini, and battled back to tie the match 3-3. Hussey fought through two tiebreakers to win a dramatic three set match over No. 83 Zeke Clark, 7-6 (7-4), 6-7 (9-11), 6-4. The win over Clark was Hussey’s first ranked win of the season.
 
The Edgewood, Kentucky native has strung together an impressive season and is 6-2 so far this season. Hussey has wins on the No. 2, No.3, No. 5 and No. 6 court. He is currently on a four-match winning streak.
 
Kentucky will be back in action on Friday against Oklahoma and will begin SEC play on Sunday at Alabama.
