Abubakar’s Long Jump Win Starts Kentucky at IU Relays

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Mohammed Abubakar leapt to the nation’s No. 10 mark this young season, 25-feet-2.75-inches/7.69 meters to win the long jump at the Indiana University Relays on Friday.

Abubakar, competing for the second time this season, ranks fourth in the Southeastern Conference and second on the team behind heptathlon star Timothy Duckworth who owns a mark of 25’2.75″/7.69m.

Jacklyn Howell advanced to the women’s 60m hurdles final with a qualifying mark of 8.37Q, second fastest of the preliminary heats.

Caleb Wilt also advanced to Saturday’s men’s 60m hurdles final with a third-place qualifying time of 8.06.
 
The women’s 60m hurdles final on Saturday will take place at 11:50 a.m. ET. The men’s 60m hurdles final will be at noon.
 
Kentucky alumna and current volunteer assistant coach Kendra Harrison won the women’s 200m in 23.31. Howell was fourth in 24.43.
 
Omar McLeod, an Arkansas alumnus currently working as a volunteer assistant on the UK staff, won the men’s 200m in 21.12 as he prepares for next week’s Millrose Games and ramps up to defend his world indoor 60m hurdles title later this year. Wilt was 14th in 22.82.

Teams at the meet include host IU, Notre Dame, South Florida, Miami (Ohio), Cincinnati, WKU and Florida International.
 
Riley Caudill and Alison D’Alessandro are entered in the women’s pole vault on Saturday at 12:20 p.m..

Abubakar is slated to run the men’s 400m Saturday at 12:35 p.m., while Cole and Tanner Dowdy and Alex Mortimer are scheduled to run the 3k at 1:30 p.m.
 
The men’s team moved up 12 spots, while the women’s team moved up three spots in this week’s computer rankings released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Kentucky will host its last home meet of the indoor season, the McCravy Memorial on Saturday, Feb. 3.
