Kentucky Duo Named ITA All-Americans

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky’s tandem of junior Mami Adachi and senior Aldila Sutjiadi was named to the 2017 Division I All-America Doubles Team, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced Thursday afternoon.
After becoming UK’s first duo to earn All-America distinction since 2007 last season, the pair now becomes the first twosome to be named All-Americans in back-to-back seasons since Carolina Mayorga and Sarah Witten accomplished the task in 2001 and 2002.
To earn All-America in doubles, a pairing must meet any of the following criteria: a top eight seed in the NCAA Doubles Championship, reach the quarterfinals in the NCAA Doubles Championship, or finish in the Top 10 of the final Oracle/ITA National Doubles Rankings.
The Wildcat pair met all three of the qualifications, earning the No. 3 overall seed in the tournament, advancing to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Doubles Championship and finishing the season at No. 4 in the final Oracle/ITA National Doubles Rankings.
Of the 15 duos to earn All-America status, 10 were from the Southeastern Conference. Sutjiadi and Adachi went 7-4 in SEC play this season.
The two began the season as national champions, winning Kentucky’s first-ever doubles title at the ITA Indoor Championship in November. They put together a 22-10 overall record on the year, including a 10-8 record against pairs ranked inside the final Oracle/ITA Top 50.
