Rifle Heads Northeast for Doubleheader at Army West Point

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky rifle team will head northeast for its first doubleheader weekend of the year, competing both Saturday and Sunday against a handful of teams at Army West Point.

Saturday, Kentucky will compete in a tri-match against host Army West Point and Nebraska. Sunday’s match will feature four teams, including Nebraska, Norwich and Mount Aloysius.

Smallbore is set to begin at 8 a.m. ET both days, while air rifle will follow at approx. 10:30 a.m. ET. Only one relay will be competed each day.

Live targets can be found at UKathletics.com. NCAArifle.org will have a live scorecard for the match and final results.

“This will be a great test for our team against some really good teams on the road again,” UK head coach Harry Mullins said. “Its one thing to go on the road and compete one match, but a completely different set of mental and physical ability is required to do it back-to-back days. I look forward to seeing how the team responds to that and handles this weekend.”

Kentucky is coming off a 4738 team aggregate score in a victory at Navy last weekend. UK scored a 2355 in smallbore and 2383 in air rifle for the strong aggregate score.

It was junior Braden Peiser that led UK with a 597 in smallbore and 598 in air rifle. His high smallbore score was a career-best mark, while he set a new career high aggregate score with a 1195. His 597 smallbore is the best in the nation this season, while 1195 aggregate is also the nation’s best.

Sophomore Sam Adkins is third on the team with a 1182.5 aggregate behind a 586 smallbore average and 596.5 air rifle average.

Brandon Evans, Martin Voss, Jacob St. Hilaire and Elisa Boozer are all averaging in the 1170s. Evans is earning a 1177.5 with a 584.5 smallbore and 593 air rifle, while Voss is a 1176 with a 587 smallbore and 589 air rifle. The rookies are having great seasons with St. Hilaire earning a 1174 aggregate with a 582 smallbore and 592 air rifle. Boozer is at 1173.5 with a 578 smallbore and 595.5 air rifle.

Sophomore Liz Probst has only competed in one match and only shot smallbore in that match, scoring a 584. Fellow sophomore Hannah Todd is averaging 568 in smallbore and 590 in air rifle.

Army West Point is earning a 2324.50 average in smallbore and 2356 in air rifle with a 4680.5 aggregate average. Nebraska is earning a 2351.5 in smallbore and 2380 in air rifle for a 4731.5 average. Norwich is averaging a 4317 this season, while Mount Aloysius is earning a 4534.5.
