A total of 15 schools are in the field, including six teams in the Golfweek preseason top 25 and three in the top 10. Florida State, Illinois, Texas, Ohio State and Notre Dame all reached the 2024 NCAA Championships with the Illini, Seminoles and Buckeyes all qualifying for match play.
This week’s event is the start of a five-tournament fall slate for the Cats, who enter their second season under the direction of head coach Gator Todd. UK returns five student-athletes from last year’s roster while welcoming five additions to the team – three freshmen and two transfers.
Kentucky opens its fall campaign at the Folds of Honor for a second-straight season, having placed sixth as a team a year ago at 19-over par total. The now graduated Alex Goff led the charge for UK, tying for second individually at even par. Solomon Petrie and Jansen Preston, both in the Kentucky lineup this week, also participated in the tournament in 2023, placing T37 and T58, respectively.
Preston started all 10 events for UK last season and was second on the team in scoring average at 73.14. The Vanderbilt transfer came on strong in the spring season with five top 30 finishes in six spring starts, including a career-best T19 result at the Mason Rudolph Championship. Petrie totaled three starts for the Wildcats last season as a redshirt freshman and appeared in the third round of the SEC Championship as a substitute.
Joining Petrie and Preston in the starting five are transfers Jack Schoenberger and Jackson Klutznick, along with true freshman Gavin Clutts. Schoenberger spent his last two seasons at Belmont, amassing a 71.37 scoring average across 21 events. He was an All-Missouri Valley Conference honoree in 2023-24 after recording top 20 finishes in all 10 of his starts and tallying 21 rounds of par-or-better.
