Kentucky Wraps Up First Night of NCAA Championships

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Kentucky women’s swimming and diving team competed in two relays on the opening night of the 2022 NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships held at the McAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta, Georgia.

Izzy Gati (1:45.79), Riley Gaines (1:42.18), Sophie Sorenson (1:45.09) and Kaitlynn Wheeler (1:46.01) recorded the team’s highest finish of the night. They finished ninth overall in the 800 free relay with a time of 6:59.07 to achieve All-America Honorable Mention status.

In addition to the 800 free relay, the 200 medley relay was also raced on the first night of competition. Caitlin Brooks (24.17), Bailey Bonnett (26.88), Gati (23.85) and Gaines (21.57) combined in 1:36.47 to finish 20th.  

Kentucky is back in action on Thursday, March 17 for the second day of the big dance. Events featuring Wildcats include the 500 free, 200 IM and 1-meter with prelims beginning at 10 a.m. ET and finals set for 6 p.m.
