Team Records and Series Notes

  • Kentucky is 15-11, 8-8 in the SEC this season, while Auburn is 10-17, 2-14 in league play.
    • This was the 52nd all-time meeting between the two teams with the series now tied 26-26.
    • Kentucky leads the series in games played in Lexington, 12-10.
    • Kentucky has won 15 of the last 16 meetings, including nine straight in Lexington.
    • Kentucky won both meetings between the two teams this season also defeating the Tigers in Auburn.
  • Kentucky is on a six-game winning streak, marking the most consecutive wins for UK in league play under Kyra Elzy.
    • It is the longest winning streak for Kentucky in league play since Feb. 2019.
    • This is the first time Kentucky has won six straight games to end the regular season since 2016. UK went to the SEC Tournament semifinals and NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 that season.

  • Kyra Elzy is in her second season as the head coach of the Wildcats, holding a 33-20 overall record.

    • UK is 22-7 all-time at home under Kyra Elzy, including a 20-5 mark in Memorial Coliseum.
  • Kentucky will be back in action Thursday, March 3 vs. Mississippi State in the second round of the SEC Tournament. The game will tip at 7 p.m. ET on SEC Network.   

 
Team Notes

  • Kentucky used the starting combination of senior guards Rhyne Howard and Jazmine Massengill, sophomore forward Treasure Hunt and Nyah Leveretter, and freshman guard Jada Walker.
    • This is the fourth time that UK has used this starting combination this season. UK is 5-0 with this combination.
    • Rhyne Howard scored first for Kentucky in the game. It was the team-leading ninth time this season she has scored first.
    • Dre’una Edwards was the first sub for Kentucky. It was the seventh time she has been the first Wildcat off the bench.
    • Auburn won the opening tip. It was the 17th time that UK has lost the opening tip.  
  • Kentucky – and Rhyne Howard – came exploding out of the gate, leading 30-15 at the end of the first quarter.
    • Howard had 16 first-quarter points, going 6-of-8 from the field and 4-of-5 from 3.
    • UK was 11-of-17 from the field and 6-of-7 from 3 in the first quarter.
    • The 30 points was UK’s most in the first quarter of a game all season and the second most in a quarter period this year.
  • Kentucky won the second quarter 17-11 to take a 47-26 lead into the break at halftime.
    • UK was 6-of-15 from the field in the second quarter, including 2-of-5 from 3.
    • Auburn was 3-of-19 rom the field in the second quarter, including 0-of-2 from 3.
    • Overall in the first half, UK was 8-of-12 from 3 and 17-of-32 from the field for 53 percent.
    • Auburn missed each of its last six shots and made just one of its last 10 to end the first half.
  • Kentucky won the third quarter 28-14 to take control of the game.
    • UK was 9-of-18 from the field and 1-of-4 from 3 in the quarter.
    • Auburn was 3-of-15 from the field and 1-of-2 from 3.
  • Auburn won the fourth quarter 22-15.
  • Kentucky has won three straight league games by 15+ points since 2013.

  • Rhyne Howard had a record-breaking down, scoring 32 points with eight 3s.

    • Howard hit six 3s in the first half, which was a new school record. Several players had hit five prior to today.
    • Howard’s eight 3s overall were the most in a game in program history.
    • Her 3s made today pushed her to 272 career 3s made, which is tops in program history.
    • Howard’s 32 points were a season high and marked the ninth time in her career she has scored 30 or more points.
      • She now is second all-time in program history in 30-point performances.
    • For her career, Howard has scored 2,185 career points sitting second in UK history in points scored. She is second all-time in Kentucky history – men’s and women’s – in points scored.   
    • Howard ranks second in school history in career scoring average at 20.0, while she is tied for second in field-goals made with 757, first in career 3s made with 272 and fourth in career 3-point field-goal percentage at 37.4. She is also fourth in UK history in steals per game at 2.367.
