KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – In its final appearance of the 2021 season, the University of Kentucky women’s soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision at No. 12 Tennessee on Thursday night at the Regal Soccer Stadium in Knoxville.

With the loss, the Wildcats finish the year with an overall record of 7-10-2 and a 1-9 mark in Southeastern Conference action. The Lady Vols improve to 15-2 on the season and are 8-2 in league play.

Marissa Bosco, who had all three of UK’s shots in the opening half, fired off a pair of back-to-back attempts early on before Tennessee struck first in the eighth minute after a goal from Mackenzie George.

Bosco had another good look for the Wildcats in the first half but her shot went right into the gloves of Lady Vol keeper Ashley Gabor. Jaida Thomas then gave Tennessee a two-goal advantage heading into the break after netting one in the 31st minute.

The Wildcats had eight shots, including five on frame, throughout the second half but were unable to get on the board. Jordyn Rhodes finished the match with a game-high four shots with her and Bosco each having two on target, while the Lady Vols held a 13-11 edge in shots and 9-1 in corners.

Between the posts, Laura Nielsen recorded six saves while Gabor made seven for the Lady Vols.
