Wildcats Claim 11 More Wins on Final Day of Kentucky Invitational

by Tony Neely

LEXINGTON, Kentucky  – The Kentucky men’s and women’s track and field teams claimed 11 more wins Saturday in the Kentucky Invitational at the UK Track and Field Complex, totaling 19 victories for the two-day event.

Lance Lang was among the day’s many highlights, as he won the 100-meter dash in a personal-best 10.29 seconds that ties for ninth place on the UK all-time list in that event. That completed the sprint double for Lang after he took the 200m dash Friday.  In addition, he helped the Wildcats win Saturday’s 4x100m relay.

Annika Williams also was a double winner for the meet. On Saturday, the multi-event star won the high jump with a leap of 5’10.75″/1.80m.  That joined her Friday victory in the long jump.

Also joining the victory circle Saturday:

  • Nicole Fautsch, whose heave of 52’6″/16m claimed the women’s shot put.
  • Josh Sobota’s discus throw of 186’0″/56.69m also is a personal best and the No. 10 mark in UK history.
  • Jake Allen paced the men’s 1500-meter run with a personal-best time of 3:44.18.
  • Siobhan Szerencsits cleared 13’9.25″/4.20m in the women’s pole vault, a personal best that is the No. 2 mark in UK outdoor history.
  • Charles Lenford Jr. won the shot put, hurling the sphere 60’1.75″/18.33m.
  • Dwight St. Hillaire continued his outstanding campaign, pulling away to win the 400m dash in a time of 45.81 seconds.
  • The women’s 4x100m relay of Shadajah Ballard, Dajour Miles, Faith Ross and Megan Moss at 45.15 seconds.
  • The women’s 4x400m relay of Ross, Moss, Masai Russell and Miles covered the distance in 3:32.31, the No. 12 time in school history.
  • The men’s 4x100m relay of Kennedy Lightner, Lang, Cameron Council and St. Hillaire in 39.54 seconds.

The Kentucky Invitational also was Senior Day for the Wildcats, as 25 seniors from the 2020 and 2021 graduating classes were recognized.

As the last regular-season meet, this was the Wildcats’ final effort before the postseason.  UK will contest the Southeastern Conference Outdoor Championships May 13-15 at Texas A&M.
