No. 7 Kentucky to Host Charlotte in C-USA Opener
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Following an unblemished start to the spring and an 8-1-1 non-conference slate overall, No. 7 Kentucky is set to open Conference USA play against Charlotte (0-2-1) at Wendell & Vickie Bell Soccer Complex on Saturday at 5 p.m. ET, live on ESPN+.
Kentucky has not lost to Charlotte in the teams’ last six meetings, which have included three double-overtime contests. The sides played to a 1-1 draw at Charlotte in fall 2019.
The Wildcats enter Saturday fresh off a 1-0 win over Bowling Green last Tuesday. The game winner was scored just 13 minutes after kickoff by Mason Visconti, set up with a pinpoint cross on the ground from Robert Screen off a long ball from the back line by Leon Jones.
Visconti is one of four players on Kentucky’s spring 2021 roster with double-digit shot attempts on the season. The Cats are led in points by both Eythor Bjorgolfsson and Daniel Evans, who have three goals and three assists apiece.
Charlotte comes to Lexington on the heels of a 3-0 loss at home at the hands of West Virginia. The 49ers did not compete last fall.
