Cats Seek Third Straight Win Friday Versus Central Arkansas
LEXINGTON, Ky. – After back-to-back two-goal victories to open fall competition at Wendell & Vickie Bell Soccer Complex, No. 4 Kentucky (2-1) is set to host Central Arkansas (0-1) on Friday at 3 p.m. ET.
Friday will mark the teams’ first meeting since the Wildcats commenced the 2008 season with a 6-0 win over the Bears in the Kentucky Invitational.
Kentucky, competing as the nation’s fourth-ranked unit for the first time since United Soccer Coaches released its latest poll last Tuesday, enters Friday four days removed from a 3-1 win over Louisville.
Sophomore forward Eythor Bjorgolfsson recorded the second brace of his 22-game career, while Lexington native Aimé Mabika logged both the opening assist and the final goal in the intrastate matchup. Daniel Evans was credited with assisting Bjorgolfsson on his second goal of the night.
The Wildcats outshot the Cardinals 7-3 on target and 17-9 overall. Mabika, Leon Jones, Robert Screen, Luis Grassow and Bailey Rouse played all 90 minutes in the defensive effort. Louisville native Ryan Troutman received his first start as Kentucky’s goalkeeper.
Kentucky defeated Duke 4-2 in its home opener on Sept. 21.
Central Arkansas opened its fall campaign with a 3-2 overtime loss to Conference USA foe UAB at home on Sept. 19. The Bears finished 10-7-1 (4-1 Sun Belt Conference) in 2019.
