UK Men’s Soccer Announces Fall 2020 Schedule, Attendance Plans
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky men’s soccer program released its schedule, as well as its attendance plan, for the fall 2020 season on Tuesday. The Wildcats will begin and end the six-week span on the road, hosting five matches at Wendell & Vickie Bell Soccer Complex in between.
Following the player and coach guest attendance model implemented by UK women’s soccer last Monday, no ticket options for any UK soccer matches will be made available to the public at this time.
The UK men’s team will compete in seven non-conference matches, including four tilts with opponents from the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Wildcats are set to kick off competition versus Notre Dame on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET in South Bend, Indiana. The match will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra.
Thursday’s competition will mark the first meeting between the two sides since 2014, when an unranked Kentucky squad stormed into Alumni Stadium and claimed a last-minute 1-0 win over the second-ranked Fighting Irish on the final day of the Mike Berticelli Memorial Tournament.
Kentucky’s 2020 home debut will come four days later, when the Cats host the Duke Blue Devils on Monday at 7:30 p.m. The contest will serve as the first ever between the programs, as well as the first of two planned this season.
Each of Kentucky’s home matches will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
Next, the Cats host the latest installment of their annual in-state series versus the Louisville Cardinals on Monday, Sept. 28 at 7:30 p.m. UK leads the all-time count 12-8-5.
Kentucky continues its home stretch against Central Arkansas on Friday, Oct. 2 at 3 p.m. and Mercer on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. As was the case with last fall’s regular season slate, the final match at the Bell will be in opposition of Conference USA foe UAB, though this time a 2-0 victory would not count toward league standings. The Wildcats and Blazers will face off Saturday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m.
Kentucky is set to conclude its season at Koskinen Stadium in Durham, North Carolina, with a return matchup at Duke on Friday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m.
Championship play at both the C-USA and NCAA Division I level has been postponed to the spring of 2021, and Kentucky’s fall schedule is subject to change. UK Athletics will continue to evaluate its soccer attendance plan.
Guests of players and coaches who are attending UK soccer matches should expect changes to normal operations, including all tickets being administered via pass list. Full changes can be found on the 2020 UK Soccer Gameday Information page, which can be referenced throughout the season.
Kentucky welcomes back 20 members of last year’s squad, including reigning C-USA Player of the Year Aimé Mabika and All-C-USA performers Kalil ElMedkhar (first team), Daniel Evans (second team), Enrique Facusse (second team) and Marcel Meinzer (second team), in addition to welcoming seven newcomers. Last year, the Wildcats finished 13-5-3 with a sixth NCAA Tournament berth in eight seasons.
