Kentucky Track & Field Wins 11 Events at Ted Nelson Invitational
COLLEGE STATION, Texas. – Kentucky had a good showing at the Ted Nelson Invitational on Saturday by winning 11 events and placing in the top-3 in 20 events overall.
Ellen Ekholm set a new school record in the high jump, while several other student-athletes continued to produce quality times and marks in looking forward to a berth in the NCAA Championships later this season.
The Wildcats will now host the Rod McCravy Memorial on Friday and Saturday at Nutter Field House. This will be the final indoor meet that UK hosts this season.
UK Event Winners
Ellen Ekholm won the women’s high jump with a 6-0.75 (1.85-meters) mark which is a new school record and the best mark in the NCAA.
Charles Lenford Jr. won the men’s weight throw with a 65-4.75 (19.93m) mark and the men’s shot put with a 62-6 (19.05m).
Faith Ross won the women’s 60m hurdles with a time of 8.30. This meet was swept by Kentucky with Shadajah Ballard (8.35) and Masai Russell (8.41) finishing in second and third.
Celera Barnes won the women’s 60m dash with a 7.27 and the 200m with a 23.61.
Langston Jackson won the men’s 60m dash with a 6.65 and the 200m with a 21.06.
Rahman Minor won the men’s high jump with a 7-0.50 (2.15m).
Molly Leppelmeier won the women’s weight throw with a 59-4 (18.08m).
The women’s 4x400m relay team of Megan Moss, Abby Steiner, Chloe Abbott and Alexis Holmes won the event with a 3:35.35, which is currently the fastest time in the NCAA.
