Kentucky Track & Field Wins Three SEC Weekly Awards
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky’s strong momentum to start the 2019-20 indoor season continues as sophomore Alexis Holmes and freshmen Langston Jackson and Megan Moss were honored by the Southeastern Conference with weekly awards thanks to their performances at the Jim Green Invitational.
SEC Women’s Runner of the Week
Holmes won two events and finished second in another at the Jim Green Invitational. Her victory in the 400 meters with a time of 52.71 is the fastest time in the NCAA. Her performance in the 4x400m relay helped lead her team to a first-place finish with a time of 3:37.92, which is good for second in the nation. The sophomore also has the fifth-fastest time in the country in the 200m (23.87) after finishing second in last week’s meet.
SEC Men’s Runner of the Week
Jackson stole the show on the men’s side of things with a pair of 6.63’s- one in a preliminary race and one in the final in the 60m, which was good enough for second in the final race and second in the nation. The Lexington native won the 200m with a 20.84, which leads the nation. The freshman’s performances place him in the top two in two events nationwide.
SEC Women’s Co-Freshman of the Week
Moss is second in the NCAA with a time of 53.67 in the 400m at the Jim Green Invitational, only behind her teammate Holmes. Additionally, the freshman is 10th nationally in the 200m with a time of 24.09. Ross’ team also continues to hold onto sixth in the nation in the 4x400m relay with a 3:41.41 which was run at the Jingle Bells Open.
The Wildcats are back in action on Saturday at the Ted Nelson Invitational in College Station, Texas.
