(3) Washington Gets Key Hits in Game One Win over (14) Kentucky

SEATTLE – The No. 3 Washington Huskies won a low-scoring affair 3-0 in game one of the 2019 Seattle Super Regional thanks to timely hitting and execution in clutch situations. UW leads the series 1-0 and will need one more win to advance to the Women’s College World Series.
 
Game two of the series will be on Saturday night at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT and will be shown live on ESPN2 and the ESPN app with Mark Neely and Danielle Lawrie on the call.
 
The Wildcats had chances all game to score runs, but couldn’t come up with the clutch hit, as UK left nine runners on base in the game, including four in scoring position. The Huskies got one run in the bottom of the first, third and fifth innings.

Key Play
The key play in the game was Katie Reed and Jenny Schaper combining to tag out a would-be run at the plate on a Kentucky infield error that happened earlier in the play. Reed went beyond her position to get a ball beyond the second base bag and threw the ball to Schaper behind the plate, up the line and Schaper whipped in the tag to end the bottom of the first.
 
Key Player
Kayla Kowalik was the key player in the game, as she was on base in all three of her plate appearances with a walk, single and advancement on an error.

After a lead-off single and a two-base error, the Huskies pushed the lead to 2-0 on an RBI single through the right side of the infield. UW 2, UK 0
 
Morgan Flores hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to plate the Huskies’ third run. FINAL – #3 Washington 3, Kentucky 0
