71 Wildcats Set for May Graduation

by Guy Ramsey

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Seventy-one Wildcats representing nearly every varsity sport at Kentucky are on track to graduate this weekend.

These 71 Wildcats will participate in the University of Kentucky’s Commencement ceremonies this weekend at Rupp Arena. Combining them with the 28 Wildcats who graduated in December, UK Athletics is expected to have 99 student-athletes earn degrees during the 2018-19 academic year alone.

The five rifle graduates were members of Kentucky’s 2018 national championship team, while Sam Stockton (men’s soccer), Merideth Jewell (volleyball) and Brooke Morgan (volleyball) were all members of conference championship squads and eight football graduates helped UK to a VRBO Citrus Bowl victory.

Three Wildcats are expected to graduate through UK Athletics’ Post-Eligibility Program. Avery Williamson, who is now a five-year NFL veteran after earning All-SEC Second-Team honors in 2013, will graduate along with former teammate DeQuin Evans.

Through the Post-Eligibility Program, UK Athletics pays for tuition and books for scholarship student-athletes who return to school after completing their eligibility. Since its inception in 1989, more than 150 Wildcats have returned to graduate through the program.

Kelsey Dieters, who closed her career with the Kentucky women’s tennis team in 2015, is set to earn her Doctor of Pharmacy degree this weekend.
