No. 14 Kentucky Ready for 2019 NCAA Lexington Regional

by Chris Shoals

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The No. 14 seeded Kentucky Wildcats will host the 2019 NCAA Softball Regionals for the fourth season in a row, as the Wildcats will welcome Virginia Tech, Illinois and Toledo to the Bluegrass for the three-day with one team advancing to Super Regionals.

Kentucky’s run in the NCAA Tournament begins on Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. ET against the Toledo Rockets, who won the Mid American Conference (MAC) Tournament this past weekend as the No. 7 seed. In the Noon ET game, Virginia Tech will face off against Illinois.

All-session tickets are available online through UKathletics.com/NCAATickets. Single-session tickets are also now on sale. All pre-purchased tickets will be available via Digital Delivery. Instead of receiving printed tickets, purchasers will be able to access their tickets electronically through My UK Account or the UK Athletics app.

All games of the Lexington Regional will be available on ESPN3 and the ESPN app with Dave Baker and former Florida Gator All-American Francesca Enea on the call from John Cropp Stadium. Whip-around coverage will be available on ESPN Bases Loaded from all 16 host sites throughout the weekend.

Virginia Tech won the Atlantic Coast Conference regular-season championship and earned an at-large bid. Illinois also earned an at-large bid out of the Big Ten.

Each regional follows a double-elimination format with at least three wins required to get to the NCAA Super Regionals.

Kentucky faced Illinois in the opening game of the 2019 season, falling 9-8 in an extra-inning game which featured an international tiebreaker. The Wildcats did not face Virginia Tech or Toledo in the regular season. UK has hosted VT for a Regional, with the Hokies forcing the 2013 Lexington Regional to a game seven before the Wildcats advanced to the Tempe Super Regional.
