Peyton’s Fourth HR of the Weekend Walks Off No. 21 Kentucky

CLEARWATER, Fla. – The No. 21 Kentucky softball team beat its first top-25 team of the 2019 season on Saturday afternoon, beating the No. 22 Oregon Ducks, 12-3 in five innings on day three of the St. Pete/Clearwater Elite Invitational presented by Wilson.
 
Mallory Peyton clubbed her fourth home run of the weekend to walk the game off in the bottom of the fifth inning, as she clubbed in her second and third RBI of the game. Peyton on the weekend has hammered four home runs, has 10 RBI and six extra-base hits.
 
Katie Reed, Mallory Peyton and Abbey Cheek all hit home runs in the game, helping pace the UK offense to its second 13-run game in as many days against a power-five team.
 
Kentucky scored first for the ninth time in 10 games this season and didn’t look back. The Wildcats got on the board in the bottom of the first with a two-run double off the bat of Jenny Schaper to put UK up a pair.
 
Meghan Schorman picked up her second win in the circle for UK.
 
The Wildcats close out the 2019 Elite Invitational against their fourth ranked team in four days, facing No. 24 James Madison. The game will be at 1 p.m. ET and shown live on ESPN3 and the ESPN app with Tiffany Greene and Danielle Lawrie on the call from Clearwater.

3. The Wildcats had three home runs from three different players, Katie Reed, Mallory Peyton and Abbey Cheek all hit home runs. Additionally, pinch hitters Kelsee Henson, Maclai Branson and Autumn Humes all had back-to-back-to-back hits in the bottom of the third.
 
Key Play
Kelsee Henson’s pinch-hit two-run double was the key play in the game, putting UK up, 5-0.
 
Key Player
Meghan Schorman was the key player for UK, throwing 4.2 innings, allowing three runs on six hits, two walks and had five strikeouts. It is her second win of the season in the circle.

In the bottom of the third, Abbey Cheek led off the inning with a base hit. After back-to-back singles from Alex Martens and Autumn Humes, two came around to score on a Kelsee Henson double. UK 5, ORE 0
 
Kentucky went by eight in the fourth – led off by a walk to Jenny Schaper. Abbey Cheek reached on an error and was brought home on a double by Mallory Peyton. Sarah Rainwater then brought home a run on an RBI single into left center. UK 8, ORE 0
 
The Ducks scored three runs in the top of the fifth on an RBI single by Hailey Cruse and then back-to-back singles following a wild pitch. UK 8, ORE 0
 
Kentucky won the game in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a two-run home run by Katie Reed and a walk-off blast by Mallory Peyton. FINAL – #21 Kentucky 12, #22 Oregon 3
