UK Men’s Soccer to Open C-USA Tourney on Wednesday
NORFOLK, Va. – After concluding the regular season with an 11-3-3 (4-2-1 Conference USA) record, No. 15 Kentucky is set to commence postseason play in the opening match of the C-USA Championship versus Florida Atlantic (7-7-1, 3-4 C-USA) on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. ET.
The quarterfinal matchup, hosted on the campus of Old Dominion University, will pit the fourth-seeded Wildcats against the fifth-seeded Owls. The winner will advance to Friday’s semifinal round versus first-time C-USA regular season champion Marshall (13-2-3, 5-1-1 C-USA).
Kentucky is led on the season by 2019 C-USA Player of the Year, Co-Defensive MVP and first-team All-Conference honoree Aimé Mabika. The 6-foot-6 native of Lexington, Kentucky, anchored a UK defense that led the conference in total shutouts with eight.
The Cats defeated FAU 3-0 in their C-USA home opener on Sept. 21. Clay Holstad and Nicolas Blassou scored their only respective goals of the season, while Kalil ElMedkhar connected on the second of an eventual six-goal junior campaign.
