Kentucky Women’s Soccer Hosts Vanderbilt on Sunday Afternoon
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky (6-8-3, 1-6-1 SEC) hosts Vanderbilt (11-4-1, 4-3-1 SEC) on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET at The Bell. This game will be streamed live on SEC Network+ with Dave Baker and Payton Atkins on the call. It is also the final home game of the regular season and is a “pink out” match.
The Wildcats come into this game on a two-game unbeaten run after a 1-1 tie at Georgia on Thursday night at Turner Soccer Complex. Freshman forward Jordyn Rhodes scored the lone goal for UK in that game after forcing the Bulldogs’ goalkeeper into a mistake. UK would go on to concede an own goal 10 minutes later but held on for a draw and a second consecutive positive result.
Freshman forward Hannah Richardson leads the team in goals scored with eight in 16 games played while Rhodes has recorded six goals in 17 games played. Freshman goalkeeper Steph Stull is also playing well, most notably coming up with a game-saving stop late in the match against UGA. Stull ranks 3rd in the Southeastern Conference with 57 saves.
The Commodores enter this contest after falling, 2-1, in double overtime to Texas A&M at home on Thursday night. Haley Hopkins leads the team in points with 11 goals and four assists (26 points) while Madison Elwell leads Vandy in assists with eight. Vanderbilt typically uses two goalkeepers in Lauren Demarchi and Taiana Tolleson every game, often swapping the two keepers at halftime.
Looking forward, Kentucky travels to LSU for its final regular season game of the season on Thursday at 7:45 p.m. ET in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. That game will be streamed live on SEC Network+ and will also feature on SEC Network as part of a “Reach the Beach” special that will bounce around live to all seven games throughout the evening.
