No. 16 Kentucky Travels to Oxford for Showdown Against Rebels
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Following a three-set sweep, its third in a row, the No. 16 Kentucky Volleyball team will make the trip south to Oxford, Mississippi on Sunday afternoon for a Southeastern Conference showdown with Ole Miss.
The match will begin at 2:30 p.m. ET and be broadcasted live on the SEC Network+, ESPN3 and the ESPN app.
After suffering its first conference loss in over a year vs. Georgia on Oct. 11, the Wildcats have won three matches in a row and nine-consecutive sets. Most recently, UK swept LSU on Wednesday night, holding the Tigers to just .076 hitting as a team in the match while hitting .323 as a team and having five players record six or more kills in the match paced by Leah Edmond’s 10.
UK has a 45-11 all-time record against the Rebels, and have won the last 14 matches in a row against Ole Miss dating back to 2010, the last time OM defeated the Wildcats. Kentucky won last year 3-0 in the team’s only meeting, with a sweep of the Rebels. UK has won 33 of the last 35 sets against Ole Miss.
The Rebels are 14-5 overall, the same record as Kentucky entering Sunday’s match. Ole Miss was alone atop the SEC standings entering last Sunday’s matches, but a five-set setback to Texas A&M and a four-set loss to Georgia see the Rebels on a two-match losing streak and now a game back of Kentucky and Georgia for first place in the SEC standings at 6-2 in league play.
Kentucky has been led by the two-headed monster of Lead Edmond and Alli Stumler all season offensively, as they are averaging 4.15 and 3.13 kills per set. Madison Lilley, the reigning SEC Player of the Week and Setter of the Week, is leading the UK offense to a .267 hitting percentage and has logged 11.28 assists per set on the year. Defensively, Gabby Curry leads UK with 4.38 digs per set.
Sunday’s match at the Gillom Sports Center kicks off a stretch for UK where the Wildcats will be playing five of their next seven matches on the road, including four-straight from Nov. 8-17.
