Men’s Golf Returns to Action at Bearcat Invitational

CINCINNATI, Ohio – After nearly a month off from action, the Kentucky men’s golf team returns to the course on Monday at the Bearcat Invitational at Coldstream Country Club in Cincinnati, Ohio. The 54-hole event will feature 13 teams and play begins with two rounds on Monday before concluding with a final round on Tuesday.

Kentucky’s starting five features Alex Goff, Allen Hamilton, Cooper Parks, Matt Liston and Zach Norris. Jacob Cook will compete as an individual.

“Coldstream is one of the best courses we play all year,” UK head coach Brian Craig said. “It is pure golf and demands excellence in every part of your game. We have had a nice break since our last event and our training and qualifying has gone very well. I know the guys are ready to compete again and so am I.”

Goff earned his first career top-10 finish in his first collegiate start at the Island Resort Collegiate Invitational to open the season. He turned in an under-par scorecard for the tournament and helped guide the Wildcats to a sixth-place finish. Hamilton tied for 15th and Parks secured an 18th-place finish. Hamilton’s score and finish were the best of his collegiate career, and Parks made a splash in his first collegiate event with the top-20 finish.

The Coldstream Country Club course is modeled on Scotland’s Village of Coldstream. It’s a par-71 course measuring 7,081 yards from the longest tees. The Dick Wilson-designed course first opened in 1959.

The Wildcats return to the Bearcat Invitational after it was canceled a year ago due to weather. Craig’s squad captured the team championship in 2017 and has made three appearances in the event since 2011. Liston was a part of the 2017 starting lineup, which won the tournament. He placed in a tie for 32nd and had a final round of 3-under par matching a career-low score for the Louisville, Kentucky, native.

Cincinnati serves as the host of this week’s 13-team event, which also features Arkansas, Illinois State, Lamar, Louisiana Tech, Louisville, Miami (OH), Middle Tennessee State, Penn State, Southern Illinois, Wisconsin and Xavier.
