Kentucky Wins Opening Fall Game vs. Georgetown College
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky softball team opened its fall season with a win over the Georgetown Tigers, as the UK offense struck for 14 runs on nine hits in the seven-inning game to get the fall off to a good start.
Home runs were hit in the game by UK sluggers Alex Martens, Maclai Branson and Mallory Peyton. Both Martens and Branson’s homers were two-run homers with Peyton’s coming as a solo blast.
The nine hits by the Kentucky offense were all registered by nine different players, including sophomores Tatum Spangler, Renee Abernathy and Kayla Kowalik – who all three also scored a run in the game.
In the circle, sophomore Meghan Schorman got the start and went two scoreless innings without allowing a hit and striking out three batters. Larissa Spellman also did not allow a run in her inning in the circle, recording two strikeouts and also not succumbing to a hit. Freshman Sloan Gayan and Miranda Stoddard combined for three scoreless innings and just three hits allowed with five strikeouts and no walks.
Kentucky will return to action for its fall season next weekend in Ann Arbor, Michigan for a three-game series with the Wolverines beginning on Saturday. Admission to Alumni Field is free all weekend.
