UKTF Set to Host Kentucky Open

UKTF Set to Host Kentucky Open

by Jake Most

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky track and field program will host its only home meet of the outdoor track and field season – the inaugural Kentucky Open – Saturday, April 20, at the UK Outdoor Track and Field Complex.

Most of the UK squads are slated to compete.

UKathletics.com will host live results and @KentuckyTrack social media handles will also provide updates from the meet.

Logistics
The meet will begin at 10 a.m. ET with the first field events — the women’s hammer throw and javelin. The first collegiate track event is the women’s 5,000m at noon ET. The meet is set to conclude with the men’s 4x400m relay at 5:45 p.m. ET.

With chilly, soggy weather in the forecast, the meet remains on schedule at publication time. Vertical jumps could be moved into Nutter Field House on Saturday, but those decisions will be made closer to start time.

Admission is free.

UK seniors will also be honored at 5:20 p.m.

Abby Steiner was named Southeastern Conference Women’s Freshman of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Steiner won the 200m, was runner-up in the 100m and was on the winning 4x100m relay and 4x400m relay teams at the Tennessee Relays last weekend.

Her 200m time leads the SEC (under 4m/s) performance list and ranks second in the nation.

UK’s 4x100m time of 43.63 – with Steiner running the second leg – ranks sixth nationally. UK’s 4×4 – with Steiner again running the second leg – ranks fourth nationally.
